Iranian Pistachio Market

Iran is the second largest pistachio producer in the world
About 600,000 tons of pistachios are produced in the world each year, with Iran producing 200,000 tons, the first producer of this product, but since last year the second rival of production has surpassed Iran and Iranian market is the second producer of pistachios.

Iran has grown to the world's first pistachio platform until last year, but since last year, the United States has produced more cultivars and increased yield per unit area, and Iranian market is the second-largest producer of this product, according to the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA).
Last year, Iranian market consumed 160,000 tons of pistachios, according to the Customs Office of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 108,000 tons of these products worth $ 797 million, which was 4.5 percent in weight and 2.9 percent in comparison to 1389 in terms of Rial.
According to the forecast of the president of the pistachio association, this year, 200 thousand tons of products will be harvested from the country's gardens, which have more than one billion dollars’ worth of export out of marketing in Iran.
Mohsen Jalalpur told ISNA: America has been the world's first producer of pistachio since last year, but given that it consumes the largest amount of crop production in its domestic market, its exports are less than Iranian pistachio exporters, and Iranian market continues to exports pistachio as the world's first exporter.
According to him, the United States is Iran's main competitor in the production and export of pistachios, which last year produced 200 thousand tons, and this year its production will reach 300 thousand tons.
Jalalpur said: "This year is the year of pistachio, about 110 thousand of this product out of Iranian market are from the gardens of Kerman province, 40 thousand from Khorasan Razavi province and 50 thousand from the provinces of South and North Khorasan, Qom, Central, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, Semnan and Yazd will be picked up.
90% of the pistachio economy is the export economy out of Iranian market, and only 10-15% of the product is devided for marketing in Iran, with 160,000 tons of pistachio consumed last year by 25,000 tons.
According to the statistics of the Iranian pistachio exports, in the first quarter of this year, $ 98.8 million, pistachios of $ 37 million, pistachios, $ 49.5 million, pistachios without pork and pistachios, $ 8.6 million, and other fresh or dried pistachios, $ 21.7 million dollar has been exchanged out of Iranian pistachio market.
Germany, Uzbekistan, UAE, Ukraine, Belgium, Tajikistan, Taiwan, Syria, Iraq, Russia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and India were the largest export markets for pistachios out of Iranian market during the first four months of this year. Among these markets, exports to Russia, the UAE, Germany and Iraq have been the highest. Each year, about 20 percent of Iran's pistachios are exported to the European, American and Japanese markets due to production of green beans.
What are the main pistachio buyers from Iranian market?
The analysis the statistics of Iran's customs show that in the first 10 months of 2012, Iran, as the second largest producer of pistachios in the world, has exported its pistachios to at least 57 countries.
In the course of the first 10 months of this year, exactly 85 million and 464 thousand 332 kilograms of pistachios were exported in fresh or dried shells to the value of 699 million and 794 thousand and 585 dollars from Iranian market, according to the report of the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA). The weight of pistachios in terms of weight and value accounted for a share of 0.15% and 2.63% of the total non-oil exports of Iranian market.
Also, exports of pistachios during this period decreased by 5.7% compared to the same period last year, but the value of exports increased by 5.97%.
On the other hand, the average value per kilo of pistachios was also about $ 8.2 in the 10 months of this year. The smelly pistachio was the seventh largest export commodity of the country during the same period, which was the same in the same period last year. In fact, pistachio after the petrochemical products is the country's first non-oil export commodity. During the first 10 months of this year, the value of exports of pistachios was even higher than the value of exports of cement, iron ore and precious metals.
Given that much of pistachio country's commercial areas such as Emirates and Hong Kong exported from these areas back into other countries, we can guess that the numbers of export markets for Iranian pistachio are far more than the number listed in the statistics of Customs.
A wide range of five continental countries are direct buyers of Iranian pistachios, although the ratio of exports of pistachios to each of these countries is different. In Asia, Hong Kong with more than 34 thousand tons, in Europe, Russia has more than 9 thousand tons, in Africa, Egypt, with more than 403 tons, on the continent of America, Canada, with more than 248 tons and Oceania Australia with more than 110 tones are the largest export markets of Iranian pistachios.
But it's not a bad thing to know that more than 65 percent of the total exotic pistachios in Iran were shipped to destinations in the three Hong Kong, UAE, and Russia markets during the timeframe. The total weight of pistachios exported to these three markets amounted to 55.7 thousand tons. If we add Germany to the three markets, the share of these four markets will be around 70% of the total pistachio exports of Iranian market.
Also, the volume of Iranian pistachio exports to 13 countries in the world exceeded 1000 tons. The share of these 13 countries in total exports of pistachios for marketing in Iran and global marketing during the first 10 months of this year amounted to more than 90 percent. At least 18 European countries and 29 Asian countries are among the direct buyers of Iranian pistachios. Export range of Iranian pistachios have also reached $ 149 million out of Iranian market.
