Quarantine Rules for Banana Plantlet Imports from Taiwan

The Export and Import Regulations Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran has forwarded to Iran Customs a notice from the Plant Protection Organization setting out quarantine requirements for importing in-vitro banana tissue-culture plantlets (cultured in glass, “in vitro”) from Taiwan under tariff code 0602.2030. The notice is based on a risk analysis conducted by the Plant Protection Organization.

According to the Plant Protection Organization’s assessment, banana tissue-culture plantlets from Taiwan are classified on the list of goods carrying high quarantine risk. Their import is therefore conditional on obtaining a quarantine permit from the Plant Protection Organization, compliance with the quarantine conditions specified in that permit, and inspection and review by plant quarantine experts at both the entry border and the clearing customs office. Iran Customs has been asked to ensure that import request cases for this product are referred to the Plant Protection and Quarantine Organization at both the order registration and clearance stages.

Importers seeking to bring in banana tissue-culture plantlets from Taiwan under tariff code 0602.2030 should obtain the required quarantine permit and coordinate with the Plant Protection Organization and customs authorities at both the order registration and clearance stages.
