Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, through the Trade Promotion Organization’s Export and Import Regulations Office, has notified Iran Customs that the export of canned tuna is no longer prohibited, subject to further notice.
The decision follows earlier correspondence on the list of export-prohibited items under Chapters 1 through 24 of the tariff schedule and their exceptions. It was informed by a request from the Deputy for Trade Development of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, which in turn was based on an inquiry from a Member of Parliament representing Chabahar, Nik Shahr, Konarak, Qasr-e Qand, Dashtiari, and Zarabad, forwarded on behalf of Sarma Gostar Shilan Company regarding its request to export 150-gram canned tuna. The Ministry of Agriculture Jihad’s Deputy for General Industries had also cited a submission from the Iran Canning Industries Syndicate stating that, in respect of inputs for canned tuna production, no significant disruption was observed in the supply of cans and lids needed by manufacturing units, that the supply process for these items was proportionate to producers’ output plans and remained stable, and that it was possible to meet domestic market needs simultaneously with export commitments.
Based on this assessment, the export prohibition has been lifted for the following tariff codes, subject to compliance with other applicable rules and regulations, and effective until further notice: tariff code 1604.1400, covering canned tuna and skipjack; tariff code 1604.1990, covering other canned fish; and tariff code 1604.2000, covering other prepared or preserved fish.
Exporters of canned tuna and skipjack products should confirm that their shipments fall under the listed tariff codes and continue to comply with all other applicable export rules and standards, since the exemption applies only to these specific codes and remains in effect only until a further notice revises or reinstates the restriction.
