Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has lifted the export ban previously imposed on steel slabs and sheets. Exports of all tariff codes covered by the earlier restriction are now permitted, subject to compliance with other applicable rules and regulations.
The ban had originally been imposed on an emergency basis after infrastructure damage affected the Mobarakeh Steel Complex and Khuzestan Steel Company, two units considered critical chokepoints in the supply of raw materials for the domestic steel industry. Citing the risk of disruption to downstream industries and national infrastructure, the Deputy Minister for Mining Industries ordered an immediate halt to the export of slabs, hot-rolled sheets, cold-rolled sheets, tin-coated sheets, other coated sheets, colored sheets, galvanized sheets, and related strip products, covering 66 tariff codes, effective through March 9, 2026 (Esfand 9, 1404), unless extended.
The restriction was subsequently confirmed as having ended. The Deputy Ministry for Mining Industries notified the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran that, based on prior agreements and in full alignment with the Ministry’s overarching policies, the export limitation was to be lifted. Acting on this notice, the Bureau of Import and Export Regulations confirmed that the restriction on steel slab and sheet exports, which had been in force since June 16, 2026 (Khordad 6, 1405), formally ended as of June 9, 2026 (Khordad 9, 1405), and that export of the listed items is unimpeded from that date under current rules and regulations.
With the ban lifted, exporters of steel slabs and sheets may resume shipments of the affected tariff codes without the special authorization that was previously required, provided they continue to comply with all other applicable export regulations and standards. Businesses in the steel supply chain should confirm current tariff code coverage and monitor further customs notices for any related procedural updates.
