Export Certificate Deadline Changed for Copper, Sponge Iron, Steel
Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has postponed the implementation date for the requirement that exporters of copper cathode, sponge iron (briquette), and hot-rolled steel sheet obtain an export certificate from the Iran Mercantile Exchange.

Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, through the Export and Import Regulations Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, has notified Iran Customs of a change to the implementation date for the requirement that exporters of copper cathode, sponge iron (briquette), and hot-rolled steel sheet present an export certificate issued by the Iran Mercantile Exchange.
The requirement itself was established in earlier correspondence from the Ministry’s Deputy for Mining Industries and Mines Affairs, which mandated that exports of copper cathode (tariff code 74031100), sponge iron in briquette form processed by the hot method (tariff code 72031010), and hot-rolled steel sheet be conducted exclusively through the exchange’s export hall and be accompanied by an Iran Mercantile Exchange export certificate. That earlier notice had originally set the implementation date at 15 Bahman 1404 (February 4, 2026).
Under the present notice, the implementation date for this requirement has been changed and extended to 15 Ordibehesht 1405 (May 5, 2026). Iran Customs has been asked to record and communicate this change to executive customs offices accordingly.
Exporters of copper cathode, sponge iron briquette, and hot-rolled steel sheet under the applicable tariff codes should note that the obligation to present an Iran Mercantile Exchange export certificate remains in place, but the date from which it will be enforced has been pushed back to the newly specified date.
