The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has made it mandatory for importers to obtain a goods identifier code at the time of import order registration for 15 specific tariff codes falling under the Office of Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Software and Creative Industries.
The requirement follows a review conducted with the Central Headquarters for Combating Smuggling of Goods and Currency, in coordination with the goods identifier system, which found that these 15 tariff codes are fully covered by existing headings in the goods identifier system. The Import and Export Regulations Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran has accordingly instructed that the Comprehensive Trade System be connected to the requirement, so that import order registration for these tariff codes will not proceed without a valid goods identifier code.
The affected tariff codes cover a range of electrical and electronic products, including: other thermometers (90251190); soldering irons and guns (85151100); other instruments without a recording device (90303300); appliances with heating or cooling devices (84762100); oscilloscopes and oscillographs (90302000); coils and inductors with a diameter of up to 35.6 millimeters (85045010); computer case front panels (84733050); motor-protection switches (85362040); other optical instruments (90029000); electric heating resistors for automotive cigarette lighters (85168010); other lamps and lighting fittings (94053900); electric arc lamps (85394100); other clocks (91021900); carbon brush blocks usable only in automotive DC12V electric motors (85459030); and other electrical parts (85469090).
Under an earlier ratification by the National Working Group on Goods Identifiers and Tracking Codes, tariff codes subject to the goods identifier requirement generally become optional in the Comprehensive Trade System for up to one month after publication, after which use of the identifier becomes mandatory in the system. For these 15 tariff codes, the requirement takes effect from the date the codes are added to the Comprehensive Trade System, in line with the implementing regulations under Articles 24 and 30 of the Law on the Continuous Improvement of the Business Environment.
Importers and producers dealing in these product categories should ensure a valid goods identifier code is obtained and linked to their import order registration before submitting orders for the affected tariff codes in the Comprehensive Trade System.
