Export Currency Repatriation Rate to Rise on Set Schedule
Iran's Trade Development Organization has announced a graduated timetable raising the minimum mandatory currency repatriation rate applied to export proceeds in trade processes: from the current 60 percent to 70 percent starting Esfand 1404, 80 percent starting Khordad 1405, and 90 percent starting Shahrivar 1405, citing recent changes in exchange market mechanisms including launch of the Currency and Gold Exchange Center's second hall.

Iran’s Trade Development Organization, through the Deputy Minister and Head of the Organization, has notified its Deputy for Planning and Regulations of a graduated increase to the minimum mandatory rate for repatriation of currency proceeds from exports in trade processes. Under the executive bylaw implementing the Law on Export and Import Regulations, the minimum currency repatriation rate applicable to export proceeds is currently set at 60 percent. Citing recent changes to exchange market mechanisms—including the renewal of business cards and export of goods, and notably the launch of the Currency and Gold Exchange Center’s second hall along with the transfer of all tariff codes to that hall—the organization determined that a revision to how the repatriation rate is applied has become necessary as part of the country’s currency-policy control measures.
Accordingly, and with the aim of increasing coordination between the organization’s implementation policies and the country’s currency policies, and to strengthen the flow of currency repatriation from exports, the minimum mandatory currency repatriation rate applicable in trade processes will increase gradually and in a stepped manner according to the following timetable:
- 70 percent, effective the start of Esfand 1404
- 80 percent, effective the start of Khordad 1405
- 90 percent, effective the start of Shahrivar 1405, reflecting continuation of the graduated approach and continuity of the currency policy for the Currency and Gold Exchange Center without intervention in the currency-transaction mechanism, in line with the increasing trend expected to continue into the following year
The organization also indicated that it would continue monitoring feedback and addressing any problems reported by trade participants as the schedule is implemented. The notice was copied to the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, the Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Presidential Legal Deputy for Codification, Revision and Publication of Laws and Regulations (for publication in the national laws and regulations system), and the Chairman of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.
