Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has instructed customs authorities to remove tariff line 85235110, covering internal and external solid-state drives (SSDs), from the list of goods subject to cultural duty payments.

The decision follows a request from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and was coordinated with the Ministry’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade office responsible for electrical, electronic, and software industries. The stated rationale is that SSD storage is used as a raw material in the domestic manufacturing of notebooks, mini PCs, and all-in-one (AIO) computers by local producers. Continuing to classify this tariff line as subject to cultural duty increased production costs and, in turn, raised the final price of goods manufactured domestically, making it harder for local products to compete with imported equivalents.

To address this issue, the Ministry directed that the tariff code be removed from the cultural duty list, easing cost pressure on domestic producers that rely on SSD components for their manufacturing operations.

Businesses involved in importing SSD hard drives or manufacturing electronics that incorporate them should note that shipments classified under tariff code 85235110 are no longer subject to cultural duty payments as of the effective date, and should update their customs declarations and cost calculations accordingly.
