Tariff 70197210 Added to Percentage Clearance List

Following the reclassification of AGM battery separator insulation under the 2022 tariff nomenclature, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has added the new tariff code 70197210 to the percentage clearance list through the end of Aban 1404.

The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has added tariff code 70197210 to the list of goods eligible for percentage clearance, following a request from a domestic battery manufacturer affected by a change in tariff classification.

The matter originated with Ashjae Battery Manufacturing Company, an importer of AGM separator insulation used as raw material in battery production lines, which had previously cleared the item under tariff code 70193920 as part of the percentage clearance list. Iran Customs’ Import Office notified the Export and Import Regulations Office of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran that, under the 2022 tariff nomenclature amendments, tariff code 70193920 was eliminated and replaced by tariff code 70197210, and requested that the new code be added to the percentage clearance list to preserve the company’s ability to clear the item under the applicable percentage clearance terms.

In response, the Export and Import Regulations Office confirmed that because tariff code 70193920 had previously been covered by the approval of the competent authority for percentage clearance, tariff code 70197210 would likewise be subject to percentage clearance, in compliance with applicable rules and regulations, until the expiration of the relevant approval — through the end of Aban 1404 (corresponding to late November 2025).

Businesses importing AGM separator insulation and similar goods under the new tariff code should note that percentage clearance treatment now applies to tariff code 70197210 in place of the discontinued code 70193920, subject to the same validity period and conditions previously applicable.
