Tashtak Import Goods Group Changed from 27 to 23

The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has changed the currency priority goods group for tashtak (can-end closures) under tariff code 83091000 from Group 27 to Group 23, to facilitate imports needed by Iran's juice concentrate and beverage export industry.

The Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has changed the currency priority goods group classification for tashtak — metal can-end closures used in beverage packaging — under tariff code 83091000, moving it from Group 27 to Group 23 in order to ease import conditions for the domestic juice concentrate and beverage industry.

The Ministry’s Deputy for Mining Affairs and Mining Industries notified the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran that the Association of Concentrate and Fruit Juice Manufacturing and Exporting Industries of Iran had raised concerns regarding an unfavorable tashtak supply situation affecting the concentrate, fruit juice, and beverage and syrup manufacturing sector. The association reported that this shortage was leading to substandard and lower-quality products, including loss of carbonation in beverages during the export period, undermining the industry’s ability to compete in international markets and to ship beverage industry products abroad.

In light of the association’s concerns about competitiveness in global markets and the sector’s export capability, the Ministry instructed that, to facilitate the import of tashtak under tariff code 83091000, the goods group classification for the tariff line be changed from Group 27 to Group 23.

Businesses importing tashtak under tariff code 83091000 for use in beverage can manufacturing and packaging should note the updated goods group classification, which affects the currency priority and order registration treatment applicable to these imports.
